WORKSHOP

The "nonviolence in medicine" research team of Neotopia project for nonviolence in professions will stage a trial to violence in medicine on the basis of the subsequent motion:

Is medicine violent today ?

The audience will finally vote as "popular jury"; all the event will be trenslated into the language of signs for the deaf.

CONCERT

"Concert for peace" by pianist Andrea Salvo. The concert will be offered by Neotopia to the public and will be held in the prestitious auditorium of the Teatini hall , lately restored to its original beauty. At the concert's opening the verdict delivered by the popular jury will be publicly announced..

PROGRAM DETAILS

After Galtung's conference and adequate question time a role play based on a trial to violence in medicine will be staged. The format is very succesful on the main international media and that's one of the reasons why we have adopted it; the other is that it appears an effective way to start a thorough debate on the critical issues about violence in contemporary medicine. Speakers will play the role of witnesses in the trial and they will be interrogated by a public prosecutor and by a defence lawyer about the motion: "Is medicine violent today?".
At the trial's end the audience will be asked to vote as a popular jury.
After a break for dinner, at 9.00 pm the verdict will be publicly announced, just before a Concert for Peace will take place in the splendid auditorium of the teatini hall.

As it is, both the public prosecutor, the defence lawyer and the witnesses will all be first class professionals in the care field and the goal of the role play is to outline some of the criticalities of today's medicine and health care professions. After the event of 10 October it will be the duty of the research team to deepen the inqury of the profession and in the end to suggest corrective means to bring nonviolent methodologies and approach into the field

The event, including Galtung's conference, will be translated into the language of Signs for the deaf.
Proceedings will be in Italian
